DBInspect has two system requirements:
- A recent Java Runtime Environment (version 1.4 or later which includes Java Web Start)
- An optional JDBC Driver (Only for unsupported databases.)
Java Runtime Environment (including Java Web Start)
For best results, please download and install the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE),
which has Java Web Start bundled with it.
(If you already have a version 1.4 or greater Java environment installed, this step is not necessary.)
Java Web Start, once installed, provides you with the
secure Java runtime environment you need to run DBInspect.
It will also handle all application updates automatically,
checking for an update each time you start DBInspect.
This ensures you will always have access to the latest version.
The latest Java runtime is available for the following platforms:
Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP
Mac OS X and earlier
Solaris (SPARC & Intel)
Linux (i486)
Optional JDBC Driver
DBInspect currently supports the following databases:
- Oracle
- Microsoft SQL Server (Version 6.5, 7.x, 2000)
- PostgreSQL
- MySQL
- Sybase (Version 10)
For connecting to these databases, no separate JDBC driver is needed.
All you need to do is have recent Java runtime installed, and launch DBInspect!
If you are attempting to connect to a different database,
you will need a JDBC Driver for that database.
